      Hello everyone. I wanted to let you know that performance is a huge consideration for us right now. There are a lot of reasons why the renderer is slower than it should be and we are working on getting it all set up. We do expect to see a lot of improvement here in the next release but I’ll let you know as we move forward with this!

      Hi Bryan! Faster rendering has been a key focus for us this cycle and the next release shows marked improvements. Can't announce a release date, but should be soon for an update!

      Currently we've benchmarked only the low setting which we've seen an average 95% improvement in final render times.
      Please note that it's % based and still highly reliant on your hardware and that high quality is still significantly slower than low.

        We do have Libraries integrated right now (it's a tab next to assets panel). We just don't have the ability to save/write content to Libraries yet.

            Thanks for the suggestions everyone! We (Adobe as a whole) are considering the next generation of User Interfaces, so this is a discussion that is being taken very seriously across the company. I’d love specific examples of the things you like to dock/undock and why.

            Agreed, for Ps and Ai they work really well. Those applications have a lot of pallets. Some of the newer applications are trying to have less pallets that are more contextual, for example a single properties panel instead of properties, info, color, character, paragraph, etc and a single assets panel instead of color, swatches, materials, etc.

            For example, within Felix, are there any particular pallets you'd want to reorganize, rearrange, undock, and why?

              Hey everyone. I wanted to post here that we’ve started some work on making it easier to place images directly on the model. There are actually a few features going into this work and it’s going to take a little time, so probably not for our next release, but hopefully soon after! :) I’ll keep you updated.

              Hi Rob, good chance it's just the way the light is affecting it. Try setting the material property "Glow" all the way up (should essentially make it pure 100% image color). If the color is wrong at 100% glow then it might be some sort of color shift. If the color is right at 100% glow then it's something with the material properties or lighting that is interacting in a 3D way that just gives a different result than the original image. Let me know and we can dig into it!

              I love all the comments here, great discussion going on. We have quite a few packaging designers commenting here, and I do have a follow up for you! When it comes to doing the mock-up, the final layout of the image is a little arbitrary (UV space, blah blah). How far into the 'real-world' print land would you want or need these features to go? Do you need an accurate 2D print layout as well?

              Hmm - can you expand a bit when you say a badge? You can apply your own illustrations to an object via the material editing capabilities.

              - Add your object
              - Apply any material
              - In the scene panel expand the object parts to find the material you want to edit
              - Select the material and the properties panel will update to show all the available properties

              Each property can use an image, so for example, you can pick between a solid color or plug an image into the color property.

                    Creation is a really big topic, and there’s been a lot of activity here so I wanted to follow up a bit! Felix is not a modeling application at this time but we certainly want to bring in some elements of creation. I want to be clear that we currently have none of this planned, it’s an area of interest for us and we are looking for feedback from the community on what would be the most beneficial. Some things we’re looking at supporting are vector extrusion, basic shape creation, and pen tools for 3D vector/spline creation. Down the line it could be things like sculpting or simulation for fluids and particles.

                    Because creation is so big I’d love to keep this overall topic to track the interest in general creation but there are also ideas posted for specific types of creation. It would be great if you guys can…

                    Yes you can import .obj file formats via the File > Import 3D Models command.

                      Great suggestion. You can currently do 3D painting in Photoshop and then export the model as an .obj file so I think the key here with this request is to have a more live-linked experience. Could you talk more about what you’d want there?

                      @fotogestaltung - I'd love to know more about your workflow and why you want a 1-1 3D scene in both applications. This isn't currently something we're planning because it would require basically putting everything Felix has inside of Photoshop. We built Felix as a standalone app to really deliver a great experience, so we're looking more at live-linking between the apps. Would love your thoughts on why that might not be enough.

                        .obj is the only supported file type. The new release for 0.2.0 correctly filters in the File > Import menu.

                        Hmm we definitely support .obj file format so it might be something particular to the Solidworks .obj export. If one of you could send me a sample .obj export from Solidworks I can test it out but it should work!

                        Additional file format support is one of the high priorities for Felix which is an ingestion app! From the list you pointed out I know that .stl is on our supported files roadmap. In the mean time I know there are some macros for Solidworks that add .obj file export so you could potentially use that to extend the export capabilities there.

                          Hi Eric, I did not mean to imply we aren't working on it, simply that it might be the same symptom from a different root cause. The work we're doing will definitely resolve for Mac, but we don't have a solution for Windows yet. I have sent out some requests for users for remote sessions an we're continuing to investigate.

                          Hehe yeah, it's early days for us. We have a ton of performance improvements that we're working on with them right now. Vray itself is fast but it's all about implementation. Now that it's working it's time to bring it to the quality and speed you should expect from a brand new Adobe app.

                          We only support .obj at the moment but we'll be expanding the list of supported file formats. The ones we're considering at the top of the list are .fbx, and .dae, but there's a wide list we're considering. You can find ideas for all of those with the search and vote on the ones you'd like for your projects.

                          Hi Kurt, thanks for the extra information. To clarify on the "beachball of death", you're able to start the application and it launches the start screen. You can play the demo video but once you click on the "Create New Project" or "Start Tour" buttons then the beachball starts spinning, is that correct?

                          If so, this is a known issue we've been tracking. Unfortunately it was a very elusive bug and it took some time to track down.

                          If that's NOT the situation where you're getting the beach ball, please provide more clarity on when it's occurring.

                          Are you unable to download the application?
                          Unable to launch it?
                          Does it freeze or hang or crash?
                          Do you see any error messages?

                          If you can provide me some more details about what's going on and also post your system information, that would be a great place to start!

                            Hello everyone! Thank you all for your patience with this bug. We do not yet have a fix in place but we have developed a mechanism for us to gather more specific information. At this point we need some volunteers who can reproduce the issue to try running a special build which generates log files for us to collect.

                            This looks like you might be 'inside' of a very large model. Can you try selecting it in the scene list and then pressing the "F" button or click on the 'frame' button in the upper-right corner of the viewport to frame the camera to your content. If the content is large this should recenter your camera and let us know.

                              Ah, okay! I think I understand the issue here. So our .psd export is 32 bit by default. If you look at the top of the Photoshop document tab you can see some information:

                              robot.psd @ 50% (Rendered Image, RGB/32)

                              The 32 means that it's in 32 bit mode. In order to save as a .png you need to convert to 8-bit or 16-bit which you can do in the Image > Mode menu option.

                              Unfortunately we can't remove the button. It's part of the Libraries panel which is shared between many apps. However it is disabled since Felix doesn't have any 'write' to Libraries functionality yet.

                              I'm still not sure about the Option 2. We do have a .psd output from the render mode. When you go to Render you can select between .png or .psd. The .psd is a standard Photoshop .psd file and can be opened in PS. Are you looking to save your actual 3D scene as a .psd BEFORE rendering?

                              Sorry, but do you think you could go through that again. When you say "A felix made .psd" do you mean the final render .psd output from Felix? So you'd like to go to Render Mode, render out your image as .psd and then "Open in Photoshop" to more quickly open it without having to file browser to the location? Or save that final render to CC Libraries, jump to Photoshop and then open the render from Ps Libraries?

                                Very interesting topic. I think cloth simulation could be really fun to play with and definitely makes a lot of sense to have in some aspect. Thanks for attaching your example image, that’s very helpful.

                                  Hmm hmm! Interesting! More information during loading is definitely possible and something we've discussed a bit internally. I'll check in and see what we can do there. 30 minutes for a loading is a little insane though, so likely something with the file that it couldn't read. Any chance you can share the file or it's specs? Polycount, mesh count, number of materials, number of textures, resolution of textures, that kind of thing? We've tested upwards of 15 million polygons and usually get about 2-3 minute imports.

                                  Hm, seems like the screenshot didn't attach correctly. For loading 3D models we do have a dialogue window that pops up to tell you the app is loading. Did that window pop up at all? Or did it never come up? Or just never close 30 minutes later?

                                    Love all the discussion here, you guys have some great ideas and I appreciate you sharing the various workflows you’re looking for. This idea is specifically about importing vectors and extruding them into 3D shapes.                                     I’d love to get some more information on your desires and needs for extrusion!

                                    Simply adding depth to create the 3D shape or also beveling the corners to make round edges? Would you want a profile feature to define more unique corners shapes (such as the lip of a table which might have curves and sharp edges in tiers)?

                                    I’d also love to know about the actual meshes that are created. For example, if you bring in text would it be better if the text was all one ‘object’ that moves together or each letter broken into…

                                    Tiago, if you have ideas that you think would round out the program to meet those needs, we'd love to hear them. It is primarily a renderer first at the moment. The creation aspect is something we're interested in, but we have no commitment to yet.

                                      We can easily 'read' the full .psd but only used the combined baked down map from it, so I wouldn't worry too much about the performance aspect. More curious about the workflows you'd want there.

                                      Would you want it to be a single .psd that has a layer per channel (color, roughness, opacity) or more multiple layers that are being added to a single channel (multi-layer PSD import into the color channel)?

                                      Can you expand a bit? When you say import .psd inside as materials do you mean adding them as textures/images in the material channels?

                                        Yes, we are an ingestion app, so we plan to support all the major file formats in time. DAE is a good format but it's wildly inconsistent between authors and platforms. We kind of hate DAE too. ;) That's why we made .ASD as both our file format and object format. Because each format has it's own prerequisites for support, it's best if you post each file format you'd be interested in as an idea or vote on the existing ones (IE, .dae, .fbx, .step, .stl). That way we can track interest in each type.

                                        At the moment we only support .obj file import. There is a bug in the import menu which is not properly filtering to only supported file types, sincere apologies for the confusion!

                                          Awesome, thanks for the additional details on your workflows. We're working on implementing a first pass (hah) of render passes which will probably include object and material ID passes with selections made through Photoshop but I definitely see the benefit of the workflow you mentioned, David. I've used that process a few times myself, especially when working with things like hair that aren't easy to recreate the selections in Photoshop. The goal is definitely to support both of these eventually.

                                          How do you set it up so that the objects are separated? Do you render out more of a material ID pass and then make selections from the ID pass (material ID pass, light pass, reflection pass)?

                                            That makes sense, you've set up your view to be from a specific 2D background so rotating that view is a little counter productive. Great discussion and something we've been talking about a lot on the team actually.

                                            Hypothetically!

                                            What if you had 2 views? What if you had one camera which was your sort of final shot which was more 2D and then a second one where you could say rotate around to look at the 3D scene.

                                            In that scenario do you think you'd rather have one tool (Zoom Tool) that behaves differently/logically/automatically in the different views? A tool with a modifier (Drag to Dollly, Shift+Drag to Zoom)? Or do you think you'd rather have two sets of distinct tools (Zoom tool and Dolly tool)?

                                            Felix actually does not have any '2D' scene, so when you say you put it in the 2D scene, you've really just added background that is sort of behind your 3D camera. If I understand you're saying that once you add a 2D background you more expected it to change to a completely 2D space with 2D pan, rotate and zoom tools?
